After 20 years of creating brands for other people shãshen is about bringing together all the
passions of its creator in one story — design, people, travel, learning, beauty, laughter, love
and sharing. There is no beginning but a natural evolution that sprang from a desire to create
something that reflected the values I believe are important in my life (often striving to main-
tain them while under pressure) and this world we all live in.
The dream has long been to create a business with at its centre the creation of beautiful
things with more than a transient value. This process would sometimes be a solitary
endeavour and sometimes in collaboration with others where everyone retained a share in it’s
success and a part of this success also benefited those less privileged than ourselves. It is
most likely a lack of courage that it has taken this long to be born. Eventually a year in
Europe during the recent GFC with no work made me stop in India where thought I would look
into this jewellery idea that had been circulating for a few years.
Once there it was like I had angels on my shoulders meeting people that led to other people
who all conspired to me making more jewellery than I could excuse myself owning and hence
shãshen was born. The name persisted in a meditation and is the perfect blend of making
something happen in this masculine commercial world while retaining all those softer feminine
values of love, nurturing, beauty and seduction.
My personal journey has been rather nomadic beginning in a small city in mythical Ireland with
childhood summers spent by the ocean followed by years living among the cities of Europe, USA
and then some time in Australia: while all the time travelling gathering experiences, friends,
adventures, souvenirs and adventures. I have never considered myself a tourist rather a curi-
ous visitor. I seek to discover a place and its people and have a natural propensity to attract
people and situations that feed this. This curiosity has found me meditating in Central
Brazil, barbequing in the jungle in Southern India and bicycling in the snow in Amsterdam.
I trust you will enjoy our collections and I hope enough to even buy one or two pieces.
I would love to hear your experiences as you wear them and better still with a photo of you wearing them.
Thank you for visiting and I hope to meet you or hear from you sometime soon: in the
meantime enjoy.
